Philadelphia, PA—An adult man living in Philadelphia became an artist today after taking photos of the city when it was raining during his lunch break from a hybrid role as an analyst for Spotify.
“Something about the city just – makes me feel alive. I don’t know – I think I’m the only one that feels it. I’m just different I guess. The hustle and bustle of the neighborhood, the horns honking — just a peak into my dark mind I guess, the things people hate about this city I really like. Haaaaaa ha.” (This was not a stylistic editor choice – he actually laughed like that.)
Many young artists seem to find inspiration in the city, and Lousy Human’s editorial team set off to find out why.
“I guess it’s just the architecture. Or maybe just the way it’s really dense. I think it’s the tiny roads that are in the old city. Also the big wide roads are really cool too, like a lot of cars can drive on it. You ever look at cars and just realize … wow, everyone is living their own life? I don’t know, I started thinking about those things differently after I got my grandfather’s old Nikon camera after my mom figured out all the estate stuff.”
While many images exist online of Philadelphia while its raining, this artist insists his take is different.
“With my photos, it’s really more about the feeling you get after putting it down,” the artist told our reporters. “Most artists, they want you to feel something when you look at the piece. I want you to feel something when you aren’t looking at the piece, you know? Like, I want it to stay with you. Hours, days, weeks, months, years … I want you to not be able to sleep because when you close your eyes, your thoughts are consumed with me and my photos. I think once every single person in the entire world feels exactly the same reverence, respect, fear, and arousal from my work, then maybe I’ll think about being happy and/or grateful for my life. But no promises, either. There are a lot of things I can complain about still. I wrote a list.”
